Exercise or Diet – Which is More Important?
If you’re like many people at this time of year, you’re thinking about what you can do go get your weight where you want it to be. Whether that’s 5 lbs, or 50 lbs, you know you need to do something different but aren’t positive what that should be. The obvious levers we have to pull are
- Nutrition (whether consume less, eat better foods, eat different foods, etc)
- Exercise (how much, what kind, how often, etc)
I ran across an article yesterday that is the best summary of what you should know, and what you should do, that I want to pass it along: Key points are:
- Getting your nutrition is the most important factor in weight loss
- Spending 2-3 minutes a day with a food diary is likely to have a bigger impact on your weight than 30 minutes a day in the gym
- Less exercise done consistently produces better results than more exercise done inconsistently
- Human beings are generally terrible at estimating both calorie expenditure and intake
Take a few minutes to read this one, it’s well worth the time. It provides a clear, accurate roadmap for getting your weight under control and maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle for the rest of your life.
